Dr. Ilya Livshin and his dedicated Norwood, MA dentistry team are passionate about helping phobic or anxious patients get the dental care they want and need completely free from pain, stress, and fear. We start by treating the patient and their anxiety before ever beginning a dental procedure. We will take the time to talk to you about your phobia or anxiety in order to help our team determine how best to provide safe, effective dentistry services while minimizing your discomfort. We are happy to go the extra mile to make sure every patient we treat is completely comfortable in our office, and that includes providing a wider range of sedation dentistry services. In many cases, using sedatives for one or more appointments early on, can help relieve anxiety during future visits. If you’d like to find out more about dental sedation, read our frequently asked questions below and don’t hesitate to call our team to find out more today.
What is Dental Sedation?
Sedation allows you to relax and diminishes sensation so treatments are more comfortable. These services are sometimes referred to as sleep dentistry, but this is usually a misnomer. While under the effects of dental sedation, you will remain capable of answering questions and moving, but you will feel more at ease and experience less discomfort. We do offer general anesthesia for those patients in need of more advanced relaxation. Thanks to Dr. Livshin’s years of training and experience offering dental sedation, he promises patients receive safe, effective sedation in our office. Additionally, our dentist and team are all trained to monitor your vital signs, and offer emergency intervention, if necessary for your safety.
What Types of Sedation do You Offer?
Our team is proud to offer all levels of sedation and anesthesia to ensure patients are completely comfortable throughout even the most complex dental procedures. We work with Dr. Patrick McCarty, a board certified anesthesiologist to provide even the most advanced forms of sedation in complete safety. Dr. McCarty is certified by the American Dental Board of Anesthesiology and that National Dental Board of Anesthesiology. He also works with the Franciscan Hospital for Children, serves as a clinical assistant professor at the Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine Department of pediatric dentistry and as a visiting instructor at the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Our sedation options include:
Is Dental Sedation Safe?
We work with a certified dental anesthesiologist to ensure every patient is safe while undergoing any level of sedation. To make sure you’re safe, we’ll begin with a complete review of your medical and dental history. If you or a family member experience complications when under the effects of sedation, we will customize your treatment plan accordingly. Additionally, we’ll need to know about any current health concerns, medications, or pregnancy.
Who Should Consider Dental Sedation?
If I Want to Use Dental Sedation, What Comes Next?
We’ll begin with a non-treatment consultation visit. During this appointment, Dr. Livshin will talk to you about your treatment and sedation options, review your medical history, and answer your questions. Once we find the best solution for you, we’ll work with you to create a treatment plan you’ll feel completely comfortable with.
